The Low-Down:
X's are areas of gang related activity, low income housing, and crime. I've put in a "best-fit" circle around the areas of crime. Notice how it makes a nice red ring of fire around the whole freakin neighborhood. If you make it past this line, you're fine, in fact the area inside of it isn't too bad. It's just that line.
The area can be divided into three main "bad" areas. The southwest (Glendale Terrace & Hickory Street Apartments), the southeast (Pinetree Apartments behind Dino's Grocery Store), and the northwest, on the border of Streamwood and Hanover Park. Half the Xs are in the Streamwood section on McKool Avenue, and the other half are in Hanover Park on Astor Ave. This is probably the worst section of all three.
The Dark orange/brown line is the boundary between Streamwood and Hanover Park.
Numbered Sections:
1: The Sled Hill. what a great feeling it is to go 40 mph on a sled that's going down a hill that's a good 3 stories high and has a 50 degree incline at its steepest point. What's even better is if you go down the southside of the hill, you'll end up in the pond!
2: Rinne Pool. This place should be boarded up and condemned. This pool is rarely used anymore during the summer, and is a pain in the ass because they have swim meets there @ six in the morning on the weekends. And they're LOUD.
3. Ontarioville Elementary school. nothing really big about that place except it was built the same year Mickey Mouse was born, and it's had so many additions to it since then.
4: Clark Gas Station. This was the cheapest place to buy gas, but they closed it down and it's now condemned. D'oh!
5: Hanover Park Water Reclamation Plant (TOXIC SEWAGE WATER). That area smells sooooooo bad it's disgusting. What's kind of funny is that it drains into the DuPage river (west branch) and that flows through hanover park, bartlett, and goes right past BHS!.
6: Lake St & Barrington Road. This is just a nasty intersection that has lead to a lot of accidents and traffic here is horrible during the rush hour times. Blah. It generally takes you 2-3 lights to get through if traveling on Barrington Road, heading southward.
7: 7-11. Just down the block, of course has to be a neighborhood 711. what what a neighborhood in the Chicagoland area be without one of these? People from Iowa just don't have a freakin' clue. :(
8: Hanover Park Police Station
9: Hanover Park City Hall. oddly enough, both are just outside the ring of fire.
10: The brand new Krispy Kreme donut place. Dunkin Donuts is still better. Donuts: Is there anything they can't do?
